Help us maintain the Florida National Scenic Trail. Join the Florida Trail Association volunteers by using loppers and mowers to maintain a section of the trail in the Green Swamp Wildlife Management Area, located about 30 minutes north of Lakeland. This is a great chance to see the Green Swamp and the Florida National Scenic Trail. The Green Swamp Wildlife Management Area, also known as Green Swamp East, consists of 50,692 acres in Lake, Polk, and Sumter counties. Most of the landscape is pine flatwoods, cypress domes, and hardwoods swamps. More than 22 miles of hiking trails, 13.1 miles of which are part of the Florida National Scenic Trail, traverse the area. FWC and Southwest Florida Water Management District cooperatively manage the Green Swamp. The Florida National Scenic Trail is a federally-designated, non-motorized, recreation trail that meanders approximately 1,300 miles.
