Deputy Christin Pennell of Lakeland is suing her employer, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, in federal court. She says the agency violated the federal Family and Medical Leave Act and Florida Worker’s Compensation statute after her husband, also a deputy, was nearly killed in a hit-and-run accident on the job three years ago.
