A 21-year-old father was shot and killed Tuesday night after getting into an argument with several men when dropping off his 3-year-old son at the boy’s mother house on Jewell Avenue, Lakeland police say.

The argument turned into a physical confrontation and then a shooting, according to police, who said they received reports at 8:27 p.m. that shots had been fired at 1105 Jewell Ave.

When police arrived, they were told that the man who was shot, Jabray R. Chisolm, was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center by family members. Chisolm died at the hospital at 8:48 p.m., police spokesman Gary Gross said.

Chisolm shared custody with the boy’s mother.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses. Anybody with information about the incident is asked to contactDetective Russ Hurley at russ.hurley@Lakelandgov.net or 863.834.8973.
