Frustrated by a private contractor’s delays in picking up garbage in unincorporated western Polk, county commissioners today declared a state of emergency that allows County Manager Bill Beasley to craft a short-term solution, News Channel 8 reports. “The missed collections, which persist in the county, endanger the public health, safety and welfare of Polk residents,” Polk’s government said in a news release.

  1. This situation is unprecedented. I still wonder how temporarily limiting yard trash and recycling collections will affect the underperformance of an obviously incompetent contractor or it will it simply reinforce the current practices.
