The Blue Star Highway marker at Sertoma Park overlooking Lake Parker on Memorial Highway was restored Tuesday by Tom Stelling of Daytona Beach, owner of Historical Markers Renovations. The work was sponsored by the the Garden Club of Lakeland, Stelling said on Facebook.

Stelling explains his process in a video shot by The Ledger’s Ernst Peters:

It took trial and error to find paints that would withstand sun and other elements, he says. “The longest-lasting paint job I have done on one of these Blue Star Memorials is over eight years old and looks as good as the day I restored it,” he told the Marietta (Ga.) Daily Journal.
