Alicia Leandra Fernandez Enriquez was born in Matanzas, Cuba on March 13,1938 and was born into eternal life June 21,2021 after suffering with Alzheimer’s for many years.
She was predeceased by her father, Ricardo Fernandez . Her mother Graciela Suarez . Her brother Sandalio Fernandez and her husband, Julio M. Enriquez. She is survived by her stepsons Julio ( Carmen ) and Pedro ( Janelle ) Enriquez and stepdaughter Maria Laura ( Carlos ) Alvarez. She has 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Alicia was a teacher in Cuba and sought asylum in the U.S.A. in the late 1960s. She lived in Miami with her mother, Graciela .
She retired from Florida Power and Light Electric Company in Miami when she decided to marry Julio; that just so happened to be the widower of her close friend, Fabiolita, she knew since college in Cuba, and moved to Lakeland, FL. Until then she had been a single career woman that loved the arts, music, traveling and photography. She was a devoted daughter and loyal friend to many. Alicia also had a green thumb with a passion for ferns of every type.
When Alicia married Julio she inherited 3 adult children and many grandchildren. Due to her love of photography we have many memories of our family events. Alicia was healthy, energetic and vibrant for the first half of her
married life with Julio and they enjoyed traveling inside and outside the United States and annual New Year’s Eve cruises to the Caribbean Islands with the large group of friends she and Julio were a part of from Lakeland.
Alicia was a parishioner of Church of the Resurrection and faithfully participated in worship and parish events alongside her adoring husband, Julio. Alicia was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2008 and also experienced strokes which left her immobile and silent until the Lord called her Home.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29th, 2021, at the Resurrection Catholic Church (3720 Old Hwy 37 Lakeland, FL 33813). She will be laid to rest at 12:30 p.m. on the same day at Oak Hill Burial Park (4620 US Highway 98 S Lakeland, FL 33812).
May she rest in peace. Condolences may be sent to the family at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes.
